15 miles & an ice bath!!!

Hello to all my lovely blog readers,

So after a very upsetting & unsuccessful run last weekend I have picked myself up, dusted myself down & got back to it!

I managed 2 gym sessions through the week running an hour on the treadmill & doing some cross training. I am actually getting quite used to the treadmill, if only I could stop watching the clock it would be great!

I also did my weekly circuits training.

Spend most of the weekend psyching myself up for a long run. No as you know from my bleetings, I should be up to about a 19-20 miler at this stage of the game & then you have 2-3 weeks of what is known as "Taper" this basically means not so much running to give your body a bit of a rest before you put it right through its paces come Marathon day! But because I haven't been able to run as much with my injury I don't need as much taper. So yesterday I headed out to get some miles on my feet, I was feeling alot more positive & thank fully I managed to get to 15 miles :o) very happy indeed! If not a little tired!!

It was a pleasant day & I motored along until I turned at 10 miles & got hit with a strong head wind!!!! Doh!!! No wonder I had been motoring along with that wind behind me!! Still I got back home safe, sound & most importantly with NO PAIN!!!! yipeeeee!!

So what better way to treat yourself after running such a long distance & it took me 3 hours, but a nice dip in an ICE BATH!!! oh yes!!!

I have never done this before but have been told by many that it is a good thing if you have done a long run. So I ran the old water, yep it was cold!! VERY cold!! I got in & thought it wasn't too bad..... then my feet were agony, felt like they were burning. I sat down quick & dipped my legs under & popped my toes out. Once I started breathing again & stopped panting like a woman in labour it actually wasn't that bad! And I managed to stay the distance of 10 minutes.

When you run you get little tears in your muscles & ice baths give them a chance to heal properly & it is also meant to hekp with your soreness the next day. I can happily say I think it has & I will be doing it again......maybe I do have a sadistic streak in me?????

So, I am currently deciding whether i am going to do another 15 plus run before the day or just lower my mileage now & begin taper.... I'll soon let you know.

Can you believe its less than 3 weeks away, its just hit me how close it is!! Yikes!!

Will update again soon........
